Following further investigation on site, we have made the decision to fully close Swarkestone Lock. The condition of the gate means the lock is not safe to operate. We are exploring options for a repair and will update this notice when we have further informaiton.

There is an issue with the towpath bottom gate at Swarkestone Lock 5 on the Trent and Mersey Canal. The gate has started to split and so cannot be used. Narrowboats can still operate the lock using the offside gate only. Widebeam boats will not be able to access the lock. We are working to fix this as quickly as possible and the team will be on site tomorrow. We will update this notice as soon as we have further information.
