To improve local pedestrian and cycle infrastructure over the canal in Hackney Wick. The existing footbridge at the junction of the Hertford Union Canal and the River Lea has been removed and is due to be replaced with a higher capacity structure. The works will involve closing the canal and the towpath overnight between the hours of 11pm - 6am over 3 nights on 27/05/2025, 28/05/2025 and 29/05/2025 so that the bridge span can be safely lifted back into place from the building site to the North of the canal. On the approach from the South the canal will be closed from the Top Lock 1 on Hertford Union canal to Bottom Lock 3, winding holes can be found at the Top Junction (Regents) and Bottom Junction (River Lea) Towpath moorings in the exclusion zone for lifting the bridge into position will be suspended but access can be maintained to areas either side with marshalling at the towpath diversion points.
