We're pleased to inform you that all works at Lock 72 on the Rochdale Canal are now complete. Our teams are currently in the process of demobilising equipment and removing dams from the lock. These works will be completed by 1pm, on Thursday 17 July. Please note this area has other closures which can be found here.

Our teams continue to make progress repairing Lock 72 on the Rochdale Canal. So far repairs have been made to the head gate, quoin boards as well as replacing one of the missing cill caps. Our teams have also started work replacing the tail gate quoin boards and the additional missing cill caps with the boarding out of the tail gates being left to carry out. Whilst theses works are being completed, we will be taking the opportunity to carry out ground paddle maintenance and safety related works to the lock. We now plan to have the lock back open by, Wednesday, 16 July. Please note this area has other closures which can be found here. A further update will be provided on or before Wednesday, 16 July.

Our local team and engineers have been working hard at Lock 72 on the Rochdale Canal. When our team went to replace the quion board that had become detached it was discovered that the other quion boards were showing signs of deterioration. It was also highlighted when the lock was dewatered that both cill's where missing cill caps, these will all be repaired during these works. We anticipate the repairs will be completed by Friday, 11 July. This date may change depending on conditions and how the works progress. A further update will be provided by or before Wednesday, 9 July

Navigation remains closed at Lock 72 on the Rochdale Canal due to damage to the offside gate quion board and masonry. This is preventing the lock from fully equalising water levels, meaning the gates cannot be opened safely. We want to assure our customers that we have carried out a number of tests to explore whether assisted passage through the lock could be put in place. Unfortunately, the leakage is too severe, and the gates cannot be opened safely under any circumstances. Our local team is working closely with engineers to finalise a safe and effective repair method. We are currently awaiting delivery of the specialist timber required to construct a new quion board. We anticipate the closure will remain in place for a further two weeks. However, this may be extended if we experience any delays in the delivery of materials. A further update will be provided on or before Wednesday, 25 June.

Navigation is currently paused at Lock 72 on the Rochdale Canal due to damage to the offside gate liner. This damage is stopping the lock from fully equalising water levels, which means the gates can't be opened safely. Our team visited the site today and did their best to carry out a repair, but unfortunately it wasn't successful. We're now working on a plan for a more permanent fix. We'll share another update on or before Wednesday, 11 June.
